I use club soda to clean up spills on carpet. It works pretty good.
For fresh spills club soda works well for a lot of spills.
But, we’ve been cleaning stuff, including carpets, for over 30 years, the absolute best magical cleaning product for carpet stains is Folex.
It’s available at all the home stores and it really is magic.
Everyone with carpet should have a spray bottle of Folex on hand.
Maybe I’ll check it out, but my experience with carpet spills is that the number one most reliable way to prevent a permanent stain is to clean it up the instant the spill happens. If you wait a day or two or a month, it ain’t ever coming out completely.
Exactly. I keep fighting on this goddamn hill; if you’re reacting bicarb and something acidic, be it vinegar or coke or whatever, you end up with a salt of some description. Big whoop. Just cos it fizzes, doesn’t make it magic.
(PSA: saying, ‘yes, I do know for sure, cos I paid attention in chemistry class’ does not help you win friends and influence people. In fact, you might wanna find another hill…)
Coke is also good for getting oil stains off driveways.
I mean, IIRC there was a thread dedicated for cast iron at one point.
PLUS INFINITY AND BEYOND. When I was doing the janitor gig, that stuff was awesome for spot cleaning carpets, and it’ll work in a bulk wet-cleaner, too.
Also this. Personally, for my carpets at home, I’m lazy about it, mostly because my long term goal is to rip the carpets out and put in “some form” of laminate flooring.
I’m a big fan of luxury vinyl flooring. Especially with dogs.
I’ve barely had any dark cola since 6th grade in the 1977/78 school year. I had a female health studies teacher (that I was incidentally crushing on) who told the class that she loved coca-cola. It was the best thing she could find to clean the engine components in her 250cc Honda motorcycle I later learned she really was a gear head and could tear down and rebuild almost any engine!
I’m here to report that using grease to remove Coca Cola stains has little positive effect.
