Sorry to make this thread even more depressing, but I see that the latest reports have confirmed more than 50 deaths from the fires, which makes my earlier concerns about the condition of that tree seem trivial now. It’s a pretty devastating tragedy.

In Madeira they designad an irrigation system in the XIX century to even out a bit both sides and while it made the leeward side of the isle a bit greener, the windward side is still a Jungle. You cross the mountains and is like a completely different ecosystem.
