we have two moderation threads and DM’s available if they really wanted to discuss why his original post was removed.

As a Devil’s Advocate:

MO, despite being a valued member of the community, was not a Regular and did not have access to either of those moderation topics.

I do not dispute that he stepped over a line, and even given the one post he made that I saw after the warning, I was disappointed but not surprised by the ban.

But saying that he could have complained in either of the Regular-only moderation topics is untrue.

Fair. But I don’t agree that there weren’t any number of other avenues available, including starting a new topic about it.

We routinely receive mod requests from people who are annoyed with repeated derailing of a topic (OP or not), and act on them. As I said, my actions were specifically taken in light of repeated requests to stop doing so that were ignored.

I just felt the need to correct that minor inaccuracy about access to moderation topics.

All this is well and good, but knowing what I know, I can state rather categorically that none of these proposals would “fix” the problem at hand. Not that they are bad proposals. They would be treating symptoms only, the patient is still terminal. Something deeper is needed.
