I was first exposed to the genre of Afrofuturism through Minister Faust (http://www.ministerfaust.com); he has a deep knowledge and respect for the North American science fiction and super hero traditions, and does an amazing job of framing them though an Afrocentric lens.

I remember years ago some early cyberpunk writer talking about who Africa was cyberpunk made real. She was talking about smart-phones and sneakernets.
