I guess we know what software Boing Boing is using to pay “Ellsworth Toohey”.

Will self-driving vehicles be employees, too?

A little riff on that might actually be useful. The cars get points on “their” license, just as a human does. If it gets enough points to get suspended, it’s impounded and destroyed.

It doesn’t stop issues with all the other cars presumably using the same level of software, but it stars moving some of the externalities to the company.

Either this company profoundly misunderstands what AI actually is, or they just hope their customers do.

So I guess if I use one of these tools in my job, I now have a direct report and deserve manager-level compensation, right?

“Well Bill, I gave you a ‘needs improvement’ on your performance review because you logged far fewer hours than your peers. during crunch-time”

“But I worked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week!”

“Yes, but your co-worker Server A7600 was on the job 24/7. If you don’t improve, we’ll have to talk about letting you go.”

By way of potentially useful context; the “Jack Altman” who is co-founder, executive chairman, and board member is, indeed, brother of that Altman.

That seems a bit extreme. Maybe just virtualize the AI and send it to Radiator Springs for a few months to re-pave the road a few dozen times until it learns to behave better.
