It’s pretty darn common nowadays to watch TV series after they’ve aired, for which there’s already every episode on NetFlix. (Or you buy the box DVD set if you’re my parents.)
I still don’t want to watch every episode of “whatever”, back-to-back. I’m happy to intersperse them with other shows. I think that’s pretty common.
Even though I only read one novel at a time, I often have multiple non-fiction books I’m reading in parallel. And even with novels, sometimes I’m bored of the weighty tome I’m reading and I burn through a Terry Pratchett in an evening.
This whole argument sounds like Your way of enjoying something is just wrong.
