Horizontal stripes to make them appear built regardless of many hours spent at keyboards.

Edgar, IBM’s old computers consisted of cabinets called “frames”, as they were built around a metal frame. (These cabinets were sized to fit on freight elevators and through doorways, for ease of installation.) Large computers had multiple frames: a power frame with power supplies, a storage frame with memory, I/O channel frames, and so forth. The main frame held the CPU, so eventually mainframe became the term for the computer itself via synecdoche. The term “mainframe” has nothing to do with core memory.
