As a kid, my answer was always ‘the dictionary’ because it has all the words in all the books in it.

I figure if you’d never read a book before you’d probably want to start in the “Early Readers” section.

I’m only two chapters in and I think Metaphors We Live By by George Lakoff and Mark Johnson is a good one.
The Time is Money example is an interesting deep seated, societal, sad excuse for a plague of an existence.
Maybe you’ll be able to apply the theories in a more positive light?
