The city just installed this sidewalk. Unfortunately the soil they used for backfill along the edges is contaminated with Velvetleaf and Bindweed. All that green growth is invasive Velvetleaf

If you chop Velvetleaf down it emits a chemical that further inhibits the growth of other plants. Spiteful bloody plant. It has to be pulled up, roots and all.

We’ll be staying in Getsemani next month, so I expect I’ll get to see most of these in person! Also looking to get a hat

Yeah, a hat is required. No worries, they sell them everywhere. In fact every 30 seconds someone will try to sell you something. You have to walk the streets saying, no, gracias, no gracias."

May I DM you after your return? I have more questions but I don’t want to clutter up the topic.

Not hip to Velvetleaf, which sounds thoroughly horrid, but Bindweed certainly is one of the foulest of foul Vermicious Knids - mom’s term for particularly pernicious weeds, stealing the phrase from Roald Dahl.

Street art in Getsemani and around Cartagena

Agreed. It was one of two plants that drove me to the “nuclear option” of injecting saltwater into it. The other was a wisteria vine gone unbelievably wild.

The cathedral, city walls, fort, and most old buildings in Cartagena have pieces of coral cut into blocks in the walls and columns.

Went out to see the partial lunar eclipse last night and the clouds and moon looked quite spiffy. The cell phone photos turned out to be a bit more on the creepy side. Cell phones have difficulty comprehending the moon. I like them! Wish the weather matched the visuals. Was 9:45 pm and 85 degrees :pensive:
