The Second Cavalry Regiment still commemorates this part of their history. I know this because I served in the regiment during the Cold War.

The horse in the article photo looks almost exactly like a slightly overfed version of our white mare, Story. Although we rarely call her that, as her rather distinctive response to the approach of people she likes has earned her the nickname Splashy.
