Intersections of Pittsburgh

An example of one of these boondoggles that was fixed:

This used to be the intersection of three streets, McKinley Pkwy, Southwestern Blvd and Big Tree Rd, known locally as “Seven Corners” was corrected by altering Big Tree to exit onto Southwestern at either end, rather than meet at the intersection.

An example of one that’s still a bit messy:

This one is to the NE of the last one, further along Southwestern Blvd, where it intersects with Orchard Park Rd and Lake Ave, we call it “Five Corners” (inventive aren’t we?) The signalling is way better now then it was in the past, and the exit from Lake onto Southwestern helps things, but it’s not nearly as fixed as the previous example.

Both of these intersections have been notorious for accidents, as you might imagine. But they’re also great as navigation landmarks! It’s just past the “Five Corners” on the left. You might tell someone.

What? No Michigan Left? (full disclosure, never been to MI but former neighbors were Detroiters. I loved their descriptions of the ‘infamous’ traffic feature)
