Stones people. Honing steel if necessary. Anything else is bullshit.
It’s not a hard job.
Get the proper tools and learn to do it right.
Help out friends/family/neighbors and share the knowledge!

Sometimes shortcuts/inferior tools have a place.
This isn’t one of those times.
I’m an ex tally boner and work in a professional kitchen.
Anyone who advises against a stone (or grinder if you must take off some shoulder first) is only exposing their ignorance about knife sharpening. Don’t listen to 'em.
I make custom knives. If you can’t be bothered to learn how to sharpen a knife on stones, and you want to have nice quality (and safe) knives, find a friend who knows how to sharpen knives, or periodically hit up a sharpening service.
It’s really not that hard, but does take a bit of practice to get used to holding a proper angle on the edge.
Buy a set of stones. Get one of your old dull knives. Watch some youtube videos. Practice until you can get your knife to cut wet paper towel cleanly…
