Pollock is a person whom the more I know about, the more I dislike. I’ve seen a number of his works in person and never once been moved. In fact, they looked more like the garage-floor drop cloth trash that they really were in person. Of course he was lauded for poorly ripping off a woman’s prior work.

In related news, Duchamp’s famous “Fountain” was almost certainly the work of artist Elsa Von Freytag.

Your theory has provoked many an indignant letter.

I’ve read through the arguments on both sides of that debate (most of which are linked from the letter you shared, and can be found here: MARCEL DUCHAMP WAS NOT A THIEF – Atlas Press ).

As Ades writes on that site " We leave it to readers to decide if Gammel and Spalding and Thompson have answered our challenge to their different allegations." As it stands, I find the evidence in favor of Von Freytag more compelling.

when the whole of the work seems to be contained in the originality of the work, the artists reputation can be deflated so easily.
