It is not possible to say enough good things about libraries and librarians.
The first person I ever heard champion that view was the director of a major university library. He had a very narrow view that a library is just “a big box of books”. He was, I believe, part of the same school of thought that prompts some librarians to put up signs that say, “If I wanted to help people I wouldn’t have become a cataloger.”
I raise these examples because I want to emphasize how much the librarians who act on behalf of patrons, who understand they’re serving people and not just high level filers, should be valued.
Makes you wonder how “self-acclaimed free-est country on earth” and “NSL gag order” fits together.
