Man smokes legal weed in Nevada, gets arrested in Dubai, could face 3 years

The key here is never go to Dubai… Just don’t.

I’m a gay man that smoked pot… screw ever going there.

Many countries in Asia can and will arrest you for having traces of drugs in your urine, even if you are not holding and can demonstrate that you took the drugs in another country. In Japan, it’s not unheard of for police to perform random drug tests on people stepping off planes from Amsterdam.

PSA: If traveling to the Middle East or Asia, refrain from doing drugs for at least a week before travel. Otherwise, your piss might be illegal.

They avoid the influence of Fundamentalist Islam by being the bankers for Al Queda and ISIS. They avoid attacks by terrorists because you don’t crap where you eat. One doesn’t attack benefactors.

Ironically, Dubai is where all the billionaire drug lords live.

It’s not only about the quality of the studio. Some people go to recording studios in far flung or interesting locations for inspiration or even to go somewhere without personal ties getting in the way.

There’s Probably a badass new Twitter thread from yesterday where Cory Doctorow finds new villainy in 2020 Bill Gates. I wasn’t looking for it, and I have to listen to the procedural podcast first, but the shell game with coronavirus IP looks to be a thing.
There’s Probably a new book called JACKPOT by a Mother Jones writer that you should preorder from Bellagio services or a food deliverist or a pharmacy chain rodeo Joe or maybe bookist or something. I asked Google Maps for a store with a giant rack of magazines and I’d like to announce a new walking that off service…

Is the conceit that they are prosecuting you for possibly taking drugs in their country?

Or is it simply just that the provable state of having been under the influence is illegal?

Or is this overthinking it: if your piss has drugs, that is the beginning and end of the offense and subsequent punishment.

I believe that having traces of drugs in your urine counts as being under the influence of drugs (even if they have worn off) and that is illegal. Japanese citizens are forbidden from taking drugs, and the law doesn’t specify where one takes the drugs (just like police in America can prosecute citizens who have done awful things with children in foreign countries, the laws of Japan apply to citizens wherever they are). Foreigners with past drug convictions are routinely denied entry into Japan, even if the conviction was in another country.

It’s not just at the airport either. The Japanese version of Cops (which is as tame as you would imagine) often shows the police stopping some tweeky looking fellow on the street at 3am, checking the arms for marks and then demanding a urine sample. Little known fact: the Japanese police can demand your urine, and refusing is punishable in the same way as refusing a breathalyzer is.

That one sounds cool. The one I was going to do was this one, which looks pretty easy but was just about right for the amount of time I (thought I) had available:

A good waterfall hike in the desert regions is worth its weight in gold. Next time!
