When we were looking for our first house we saw one online that was in our price range and sounded like it was worth a look. So we call the realtor and we’re talking to her.

“First house, you said? You don’t want this one.”
“What? Why not?”
“Well, the current, ah, renters have dogs that kind of prevent visiting the place. And, well, it’s a complex situation.”
“Dogs? Complex?”
“There would be an eviction. They’re not the owners and not interested in moving. They don’t really pay rent.”

If I could ever meet that realtor I’d probably give her fifty bucks for saving me all the trouble. Dog eviction. Boy howdy.

after law school, i clerked for a federal judge who had to deal with a high profile case of those types back in the 1980s. twenty years later, he still kept a handgun in his desk drawer for fear of them. crazy people.
