Oh in general I trust tor just that you do have to personally trust the exit node as well as the machine that gets your eventual message is not compromised.

You’re forgetting the critical third relay node in any circuit. If it was just ingress/egress it would be much simpler to track down.
Add this to ”always encrypt your traffic” and you have a fairly robust system.
