Release the McCracken?
The Kraken, in Clash of the Titan’s mashup of Scandinavian folklore and Greek myth, was Poseiden’s pet. And we already know who he voted for.
Some people have found the monolith. Looks like a Triangular prism.
It’s depressing that there are visible screw heads/ rivets. That’s not a detail I would associate with McCracken, having seen a couple photos of his installations. Big credentials, I know! But visible fasteners detract from a sense of minimalist perfection.
A taller version of Ios?
Teton is an outdoor structure, but I can’t imagine that this utah monolith ever photographed so well
Sheldon: as part of the roommate agreement if one of us invents time travel, you will demonstrate it…now.
So disappointed. I thought you might be the one to do it.
Seems to me that the indigenous people had plenty of genocidal warfare going on; not just the major civilizations (Inca, Maya, Aztec), but also amongst the natives of North America. Ever hear of Comancheria? The Apaches were a force to be reckoned with, as well.
Granted, it was nowhere on the scale that was visited upon them by the European invaders, but it is fallacious to assume that the indigenous peoples welcomed each other with open arms.
And someday, someone will steal our stuff from us.
No empire lasts forever.
And now, it’s gone.
There’s a difference between genocide and conventional war. The US has engaged in both, genocide of Native Americans and war with other countries. I’m not arguing the indigenous peoples of the Americas were peaceful. I’m saying that to the best of my knowledge they had nothing like Manifest Destiny.
Empires usually crumble from within, as the American Empire is falling currently. Still not the same as systematically wiping out less technologically advanced civilizations. To be clear, there’s nothing unique about any of this. It’s mostly a mixture of universal human nature and circumstances, with some reinforcing cultural aspects. An oft cited work on this, which I still find useful despite its flaws, is Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond.
And now it’s just a pyramid. What?
It still annoys me that a metallic object is referred to as a monolith: mono = single/one, lith = stone
Monometallon, then. Which is very metal and you can shred to it.
Words change meaning over time as they are applied to related ideas. Some words even contain their own opposite meaning! It’s a crazy world out there. Embrace it.
We don’t all wish to stand idly by as words change meaning. We are not a monolith!
You are literally swimming upstream on that one, but I applaud the effort.
I felt dirty making that joke. I need a shower now.
Hmmm…
