Just to play Devil’s attorney for a minute, you can sign anything you want without understanding or reading it. Your choice. No one is forcing you. But generally, the law is that by signing it you signal your agreement with the terms, and the other side is entitled to rely on that. And again, the standard response to complaints is - if you don’t understand/don’t like/object to the opacity of the Terms of Service, don’t use the service. Having said that, I sympathize with people who get caught up in stuff like this. I sign stuff without reading the ToS all the time, as does everyone. $0.02 (my usual retainer).
