NASA won't be sending humans to moon again until at least 2026

Of course, if there’s technologically advanced trans-post-not-really-human-anymore civilization(s) on Earth and in the solar system a billion years from hence, moving Earth’s orbit outwards is actually a possibility. It would take megayears, but who knows how things will go in the deep future.

Also, I’d be very surprised if there are any sapient beings we’d immediately recognize as humans a million years from now.

Now it’s been ten thousand years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what, he never knew, now man’s reign is through
But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight
So very far away, maybe it’s only yesterday

Yeah. If you separate large land mammals rather than just mammals it gets even worse for our predicted future. I remember Stephen Jay Gould arguing it was 1-2 million years (yes that’s a huge variation but it’s vague and the fossil record is incomplete). That’s for “successful” species obviously. And doesn’t account for mass extinction due to ecological disaster/fucking everything up.

well we might not know exactly how many years, but at least we know how many roads a man must walk down
