NBCUniversal accused of damaging LA city trees to deprive strikers of shade while picketing

That’s…insulting. At least Mr. Mejia called out the need for more flexibility in dealing with corporate scofflaws.

True. Although in my, admittedly limited, experience arborists tend to be a bit like bigfoot.

In fact, if you read the Twitter thread that started this, the councilwoman admits as much. There was an audit, and the city is supposed to trim trees every 5 years. The audit found that most are getting trimmed an average of every 18 years.

However…the timing here is no coincidence. They’re using the very legitimate issue of trees not getting trimmed in a timely fashion as cover for making the picket lines as uncomfortable as possible. NBCUniversal gets no pass here.

It hurt NBCUniversal in a much more important way. Coverage of the strike had fallen off. This move pushed it back up to the top of every news outlet and social media string.

Sometimes I think fines should be expressed in a percentage of yearly income.

We do that here in Finland (and in other places, too): day-fine.

TIL. The US needs that.

I seem to recall a Finnish multi-millionaire getting a speeding ticket that cost more than his car under this policy.
