The outcry might scuttle these plans.
This is for Sense8, Everything Sucks, Tuca & Bertie, I Am Not Okay with This, and The Baby-Sitters Club
Among other ideas…
Yup, that’s the brilliant plan for next quarter, which, as many have voiced upthread, will result in even more subscription cancellations.
I can’t even.
I’m hearing from a lot of people my age (Gen X) who really like that Netflix series and watch it as comfort fare.
Not that I give many Fs about Netflix, but they were working on Bone?
The comic / graphic novel from the 90’s? I did love that in my younger years.
Also, Concrete.
Hey-ho.
I would love to see either of these adapted.
My problem is that most of the movies/shows I would like to watch are either not available on the main streaming services or those same services don’t make these movies/shows available in my hemisphere.
To make matters worse, I can’t pay for 30 different services just to watch a nice Show in Amazon, another in Netflix, something else in Disney and so on.
One of the reasons why in the past few years i’ve been asking for blu-rays as bday and xmas gifts. They’re generally affordable so they’re easy asks and my friends/family will often get a few at a time. I get really annoyed when i really want to watch something specific and its not streaming or is on a service i dont pay for.
That’s another problem. It’s getting harder and harder to find a DVD player out there… I used to buy used DVDs that were discarded by neighborhood rental companies that went bankrupt at the beginning of the century. They were nice things, but cheap. Today I have this pile of media gathering dust somewhere in the house.
They could try a different pricing scheme… maybe charge a flat fee and then increase it for hours watched (after some plateau). that way if people are sharing their passwords, the cost goes up for the more time spent watching shows.
I feel the same. We only have Netflix and we buy DVDs for stuff that isn’t on there. I’d love to have a single service, where you pay for what you watch, and you can pick from anything available on all the streamers. Pay a one time charge to see the Mandolorian or the latest season of ST and not have to subscribe to a whole new service… the streamers would never go for that, because they want you to pay for the whole service rather than just renting one show or film… But it’s just a win-win to do that, as they’d get a cut and it would simplify streaming for everyone…
Our blu-ray player also plays dvds, which we have more of…
The player is one thing.
My nearest town has about 12 charity shops where the DVDs are going for next to nothing.
The cheapest I found was 50p each or 3 for a pound.
They are literally inundated with unwanted DVDs and CDs.
I have a nice collection, 'cos I can wait a few months after the cinema release.
Good news! If you have a gaming console, some of them play DVDs – PS3 and 4, 5 if you get the one with a disk reader, all the xboxes, even the WII if you install the DVDX application. If you don’t have a gaming console, well, a quick check shows several new DVD players at big box stores in the $30-$50 range, go get one before they go extinct.
Are there Big Box stores in Brazil?
In my family we still have a DVD player and occasionally watch DVDs, but we’ve found that we’ve been spoiled by the convenience of streaming. If we have a DVD of a movie but also see that it’s available to stream on Netflix or Amazon Prime, we’ll stream it every time and leave the DVD in the box. Too much hassle and annoyance getting through the copyright notices and navigating the DVD menus. Which is a shame, because some DVDs come with nice special features that you don’t get from the streaming services.
Any thrift stores near you? I was just at one yesterday and they had several used ones dirt cheap.
you can get small disc players, i have a portable one that i can plug into any computer or TV another good option is game consoles.
Umm, yes? I mean, I had to google it, and good catch that he was in Brazil, but yes, there are large consumer goods stores in Brazil – Magazine Luiza has DVD players, and with Casas Bahia, Carrefour, Submarino, Saraiva, Ponto Frio, Lojas Americanas, I think the answer is yes, though prices seem to be higher. Also, Amazon, but they don’t do storefronts.
I still don’t want to assume any of these stores are easy for folks to get to or afford. I’m not at all familiar with the retail landscape in any South American country.
We’ve been taking advantage of the Playstation’s native bluray player since 2008, but consoles aren’t really affordable for the current generation, and older console availability (new or used) rather evaporated at the start of the pandemic. I guess there’s the added console bonus of also serving as a streaming hub (getting back OT). I guess if a PS3 with the 60GB hard drive can be found for a reasonable price, it would be useful for multiple uses.
That is especially true when there are more options to choose from, that have just as much content, but are much cheaper.
- Netflix - $19.99/mo
- Hulu - $12.99/mo
- HBO Max - $9.99/mo
- Amazon Prime Video - $14.99/mo (includes Prime)
- Disney+ - $7.99/mo
- Apple TV+ - $4.99/mo
That was my response whenever my dad asked why We didn’t have cable. There’s only 2 or 3 shows I want to watch, and a season DVD is $45-$60 a pop, as opposed to a $150/month cable subscription.
I’ve watched most of the shows I’ve wanted to on Netflix, and since they cancelled Dark Crystal, I’m not particularly wed to them anymore. I’m also spoiled in that our local library carries season DVDs of many popular shows, so I can watch them for free, if not always on demand. I think I’ve seen Netflix original series at the library, too.
Yes. There are several chains in Brazil. But The last time I checked, they were out of DVDs.
Sometimes you just want to sit down and chill with a movie or show. It is like playing LPs. You have to do a lot of things just to listen one song. Again, the streaming services are more convenient than the analogic stuff.
There are some church thrift stores around. We can even find VHS and cassette tapes, but it isn´t easy to find electronic stuff in these places.
I had this old Sony player that all of a sudden stopped reading the discs. I’ve found this cheap Philco one, but it isn’t the same stuff.
I must confess I´ve never looked for a player in webstores, just in brick and mortar ones. Now I had to google and found the prices aren´t high as I thought.
Oh, these stores are easilly found in any capitals or major/medium cities. Even people who aren´t rich can buy consumer products in installments. If you look for a TV or phone in Internet, you can also buy this way.
That would be perfect. But hardly streaming companies would do that. It’s like cable TV, we can pay to have fewer channels, but we can’t pay to choose which channels we really want. If I had to choose a cable TV company, I would like to be able to eliminate all sports channels and those with bizarre reality shows.
