My only regret from my visits to Munich is the sausage. Not the liter beers.
For some reason I weathered rather large beers just fine, but it was a sausage at the English Gardens that fucked me up. I was still paying for that a couple days after I got home.
I have heard anecdotes about cured meats in Europe really messing up Americans. Supposedly something about immune systems and microbes. I dunno. Maybe I did not have enough beer?
Or, perhaps they are alcoholic, or as @Cunk said, enjoy getting drunk with like-minded friends. Stupidity or self-loathing aren’t necessarily part of it. I go on a bender now and again and hey, I’m not proud of it, but my life is hardly
