I don’t think it’s the use of the religious flavouring, it’s, like, totally the critical nature of the statement that just appears to be hyperbolic these days.
Unfortunately to my middle aged eyes, even after having been run through a thesaurus these sort of statements still come off like the sort of copy text you used to see in Pravda.
