On Teletubbies

You beat me to it.

Yes. Deep below the Tubby-dome live the gray, skinny, lemur-eyed tele-morlocks.

Once a tubby has been sufficiently fattened on tubby-toast and tubby-custard, a few morlocks pop through a hidden panel in their room and snatch them away as they sleep.

This. My elder kids were the right age for this and I remember getting really annoyed with the back-to-back repeated videos, until I read an interview with one of the creators who explained little kids both love that repetition (which I intuitively knew) and learned more from it.

Come now, Rob. Settle into the Pinky Ponk, drink your Pinky Ponk juice, and go to sleep. All will be well.

From what I’ve heard from my friends who are parents, In the Night Garden is even more psychedelic than the Teletubbies.
Mind you, as kids we had re-runs of The Magic Roundabout and (my fave) Bagpuss, so this is hardly a new trend in British kids broadcasting.

Mouse-like knitted characters living on a small planet talking in whistles not weird enough for you?

Don’t Hug me I’m Scared. These guys lean into it. After more than 10 years they’re finally getting a show (Channel 4). All the episodes are on youtube.
