Chinese retailers Shein and Temu
Suing in US DC district court?
Can they both lose?
I bought one thing from Shein, a denim jacket. … Wearing it felt like being a character in a near-future science fiction short story by an AI trained on post-2000 William Gibson novels.
We need a picture of you wearing this. For science.
You don’t wear a denim jacket for science. You have to wear a lab coat for science. It’s just more sciencey.
Eventually Big Daddy Xi will step in to stop the slap fight if it stops the flow of honey. In the meantime, popcorn anyone?
Say what you like about Uncle Bill but his fictional fetish is extremely high quality Japanese denim rip offs.
Like much higher quality than the originals.
I don’t think Shein require the services of a Cayce Pollard….
Opens up the newspaper and see both fraud artist companies fighting like children “oh bother”.
The Shein stuff fits into his appreciation for stuff like East German home furnishing made from ground-up recycled plastic. Blatantly unpleasant yet unexpectedly durable.
Maybe. I think it would offend his sense of clothing style though.
Perhaps not quite as much as Polo™ offended Cayce to the point of physical illness, but near enough.
ISWYDT and seeing the amount of Pooh merchandise they offer, surprised he has not acted already.
I really want to see a picture of this jacket now and preferably modeled on a person. I’ve never bought anything from Shein or Temu. Sure I’ve looked but I dunno the adage “if it’s too good be true, it probably isn’t” just sits in my head. Most amazon stuff feels cheap in price and build and this stuff is cheaper? no thanks.
A former partner, lured in by the cheap prices during a time of very limited income, bought quite a few things from Temu. The clothing was actually okay, if not particularly durable, and a lot of other things were just fine as trinkets or low level household items. (I’d say about on par with items from The Dollar Store, only with more variety and much less implied Christianity.) They did find a good selection of LGBTQA+ items, which given the country of origin was both funny and confusing.
A friend of mine’s dad bough a digital camera from Temu for ten bucks.
plugged it in to his laptop over USB and the malware scanner went fully bonkers.
How else would we expect a company to be able to sell $11 worth of parts for 10?
you still get what you pay for
I am at that point in life where the clothes I buy are functional and if I find something I like I try to buy multiples before it’s discontinued. I have way too many pairs of cargo shorts from costco and watching the evolution of ostensibly the same pair or shorts over a few years made me wish I had bought extras earlier. The notion of buying clothes to wear once or twice or the whole “fast fashion” thing is alien to me. Then again I wear cargo shorts from costco paired with novelty t-shirts bought online 95% of the time. The other 5% of the time it’s real linen (so hard to find) or merino wool neither of which are cheap unfortunately.
So is Wish dot com just totally snuffed now?
I’ll take “JD Vance Online Shopping Reviews” for $500.
