Pablo Picasso's teenage self portrait invites you to stare at his greatness

We’ve been to 2 Salvador Dali museums, so elected to explore Penedès Cava country, but I could have done with 1 day less in exchange for Barcelona or Tarragona.

That’s beautiful! Here’s a link to the Museu Picasso’s digital archives using the keyword “self”, sorted by date showing Picasso’s earliest self portraits, and yeah it was roughly 4 years from the start of his education to the “Bust of young man” self portrait used as the featured image in the post.

And a year later was capable of painting “Bust of young man” in 1895.

The word “Picasso” conjures up images of cubism and distorted faces/bodies, but he was painting and drawing lifelike images when he was a kid, that seem effortless. This torso study was done when he was 13, and I remember seeing drawings or watercolors of pigeons he did when he was younger that put to shame most other representational artists.
