USGS: One of our primary functions is to provide quality scientific information to the public…

There’s one of these guys in every office. He’s usually a manager or executive with enough seniority that his machine is left alone until the problem starts affecting the network as a whole. Then, when he’s out of the office, some poor soul from IT is sent in to clean out all the spyware, spam scripts, cryptocurrency miners, etc. that have found their way onto the computer in the course of months of porn surfing.

I started innocently enough with a web search for Huge Tracts of Land.

9000 infected Web pages visited. Not 9000 computers infected. The report suggests only the one computer affected.

This is one of the images that got some workers in trouble

This always amazes me. At a company I once worked for I had grown fairly friendly with the IT support staff, which is never a bad idea in general. I recall the stories of the strange things discovered when fixing these kinds of issues and it really stunned me that people look at those things on a work computer… like honestly why would you? Made for a lot of dark jokes and a few uncomfortable elevator rides though.

Once there was a new manager who had his desk turned towards his office door. He was acting suspicious every time someone would enter. Quickly turning off his monitor etc. For weeks this went on until Fall came with the inevitable Daylight Saving Time time switch. Once it became dark outside around the COB each day the windows behind him became mirrors to what he was watching on his computer. Even the most casual passerby was able to see.

It didn’t take long for him to get escorted off the premises.

Some years ago, I worked in a stock brokerage, and some of the big producers brought home seven or even eight figures, until they got caught forwarding porn on company computers. They were fired summarily. The risks a guy will take for a picture of titties is staggering.

(I know women dig it too, but they seem a little more sensible about it.)

If the office is a rockin’, don’t come a-knockin’!

Drop and cover, and stay clear of doorways. Earthquake safety saves lives.

Not even the USGS is an acceptable workplace to be getting your rocks off.

Not even that - 9000 pornographic web pages visited, several of which contained malware.

I get people like porn, but I can’t imagine watching it at work. Maybe if I was 20 something and horny 24/7 I’d rub one out in the bathroom. But I can’t imagine just watching some of it for what ever reason at work. Time and place, dudes, time and place.

Not just execs, but they are especially guilty.

An ex used to work security for Motorola while they were owned by Google. They have lost so many lawsuits from employees, they would just let one employee (engineer) browse porn as long as he was doing more work than browsing. And as long as the sites were ones they hadn’t banned yet.

Just wondering…how long does it take to visit 9000 porn site? Should be years?
