PSA: Digital scammers will try to scam you

Yeah, this is pretty old, and pretty well known. simple extortion, plain and simple.

while I do have a web cam for my desktop, it’s hardly ever plugged in…

at least this poor, pedophile suckers laptop was in fact hacked.

(man, this was maybe the most depressing BM-episode ever)

That wasn’t the pedo though, that was just the kid who got his camera hacked while he was… erm… having fun watching porn.

Yeah, I can attest to having received an almost identical email to this one on at least two separate occasions, and as suggested I also quickly made use of my password manager to be sure none of my current accounts were using the old password.

Speaking on passwords, I must recommend: https://haveibeenpwned.com/Passwords
The haveibeenpwned database itself will let you know if your email address has come up in past databreaches, but the password specific part is useful for vetting your current password choices.

WAIT MINE DIDN’T HAVE UNICODE CHARACTERS SO SHOULD I PAY THEM?

My favorite part of these is the complement eg. “you’ve got a nice tastę lmao.”

I couldn’t care less if everybody I know got an email revealing that I have a body and that it [GASP!] has sexy feelings. I don’t know where I first heard it, but I like the fact that, “nobody inherits a trait for celibacy.”

The first time I got one of these scam emails, I was just mildly freaked about whether I still used that old password anywhere. Password manager ftw.

I think a good thing to do is tell the scammer that you have lots more videos of yourself doing that thing, would they like to watch them, too?

Or thank them for sending the video to everyone you know, thus bypassing the restraining order against you sending videos…

I’ve received the same email on a few occasions, with the variation that they were in very butchered Norwegian, almost certainly done by a machine translator.
