The title is a bit hyperbolic, as KSR has published a standalone story in 2010: The Timpanist of the Berlin Philharmonic, 1942.
It is available in audio form in episode 249 of the podcast StarShipSofa.
Also, the title leaves out the word “short,” as in “stand alone short story” from the link. As the novel Aurora from this year (as well as others) is also a stand alone story.
The statement “first standalone story in 25 years” actually comes from Tor.com, and it was clarified on Twitter to mean “story not written for a collection under contract”.
So just enjoy the story I linked and disregard all the nitpicking
Unless they edited it, here’s what Tor.com says from the link in the post,
We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to publish internationally bestselling author Kim Stanley Robinson’s first stand-alone short story in twenty-five years. In it, we get a glimpse of a very green future through the lens of a Supreme Court transcript.
so he’s free of the MAN. That’s not something to poopoo.
