Recreational drug kratom hits the same brain receptors as strong opioids

I’m no pharmacology expert; but this seems like it has considerable potential to be a feature rather than a bug.

A substance that tickles the same receptors as punchy opiates that have a fairly dire safety record; but without the dire safety record, seems like a pretty logical thing to test on opiate addicts and see if you can provide at least some degree of withdrawal suppression without as many of the risks as their usual drug of choice.
