This to me is the most plausible origin for the 9/11 truther movement. If you have people this far out in the woods on a subject it becomes easier to just lump other critique in with that “crazy” crowd. It’s a lightning rod for all the actually weird shit that surrounded these attacks. Like (and this is all from memory so please do correct me if I got some fake-news in here):
- The links between the Osama family and the US.
- The funding for Al Quaida coming from Saudi-Arabia.
- The resulting war on terror that was just a disaster on practically all fronts (but beneficial to a select few).
Just laugh away the “jet fuel can’t melt steel beams”-crowd and ignore all other actually relevant issues. It’s basically like creating your own strawmen.
