Restored film of San Francisco's Market Street four days before 1906 quake

Did you see that old fellow at the very end, with the long gray beard and wearing a brown derby? You wanna know what happened to him? He died.

They look a bit less creepy in the original non-enhanced footage. I think the neural net got confused by the habits or something.

Thank goodness nobody is claiming that! Isn’t it amazing how they took old, scratchy, grainy, degraded, out of focus footage and cleaned it up so well that it feels almost new! Pretty amazing!

Those 4K are missing a few hecto:

As someone who cycles in a city with on-street tram/trolleys, it’s nice to see that carriages with narrow wheels had the same problems I do with wheels getting stuck in tracks in 1906.

Strange (I’m guessing film reel notches?) cutouts or black bars; that ain’t 4k pixels wide!
