If by hosed you mean “overworked for less pay than your peers,” then that is very accurate. Outside of completely failing businesses or environments too toxic for normal people to function have I seen socal skills be very important.

Gotta shift those rags somehows.

My mind worked on the word prescient, and slowly recalled that it’s the derivative adjective of prescience.

Pre Science.

Huh.

Artists, eh!?

Then I’ve been cracking in playing America (Simon and Garfunkel - I shouldn’t feel I have to say that, but these days, y’never know).

Gosh, weren’t they prescient? Lots of singing and lyrics about a lost country. Homeward Bound, etc.

There’s a resurgence of interest in writers and art from circa 1920s Vienna. They saw the coming atrocity and, over a long period, produced persuasive art to try and get the message out.

How fascinating that people are interested again. It’s almost like we’re living in a parallel era and people are seeking answers.

That depends entirely upon how one defines “success”. It could be that most people can’t think of anything better to do than stroking each other’s egos. Exploiting that can seem like a skill, but it comes at an expense to the individual and society.

I’m probably one of those people with zero people skills.

Not big on disclosure though. I will disclose what I need to when I need to, but pretty much everyone can tell something’s up.

In this instance I define success as big time financial, there’s no point here in discussing successful parenting or inner peace. To build a business, no matter how great the product, usually takes convincing people to give you money to grow and convincing distributors or customer to try it. I’m no Jobs or Apple fanboy but Woz could never have built Apple, his genius wasn’t that one.

Years ago when I worked on commercials I had a production coordinator friend who got mad at me for telling her that doing her job well was only a small part of being a successful freelancer in that field. There were plenty of competent people, what producers looked for in people they hired back was someone who worked well with their team, who felt good to have around. It was something that was easier to recognize than implement for myself. Fortunately my own specialty is more tolerant of curmudgeons.
