Small Towns: How Do They Work?

And sprawl, my parents grew up in what was essentially Lake Wobegon but it’s now pretty much become a suburb of the Minneapolis metro area.

Once the polar ice melts we will enter the time of roving hunter cities?

If St Davids can be a city with 1,800 people, then anywhere else can be whatever it wants to be.

And then there is the question of whether Carlisle is a small city or a huge one.

Yes, that is all one 1,039km^2 city, with lots of fields and small mountains in it, but it only has a population of 100,000 mostly clustered in the Carlisle urban area. We still call Brampton and Longtown towns, and all the smaller places villages. There is no way that Gilsland or Bewcastle could reasonably be called a suburb.
