Soon, you might be able to use certain electronic devices during takeoff and landing

Guess which is heavier: A baseball or a pillow?

Which would you prefer I throw at your head?

Lets settle this like men! (presuming you are a man): cage match. I get an ipad, you get a book. We hit each other with our weapon of choice until one of us yields.

Its about density more than mass, and hardness, and pointy edges. A book is kinda heavy, but also kinda soft and kinda blunt.

I’ve never dug a big chip out of a hard wood floor dropping a book.

And i’m not talking so much about a crash, where yea you are probably dead, but a hard landing or severe turbulence. As I recall thrown debris is actually a significant source of injury in planes.

RE: poorly stowed luggage:

Ever notice how the flight attendents walk up and down the plane before takeoff and landing making sure every overhead bin is properly latched, and exhort eveyrone to put their smaller carryons entirely under the seat in front of them? Thats to prevent stuff rattling around inside should something bad happen.
