Spain pushes for 'Google tax' to end free linking online

Eh eh eh… Spain is too big. This is the corrupt, incompetent, sold-out political assholes we have crafting a law for the benefit of their corrupt, incompetent, sold-out friends the big media conglomerates.

Rest of us is just watching this and puking our guts, as … well, lets say there is not a day in Spain where there is not at least 3 bits of news that make you wish for a politician-only Ebola outbreak.

There is already a chrome plugin to block all the AEDE supporter sites. Doesnt solve the issues (the “innalienable right” bit being, basically, we big newspapers want money even if somebody links to somebody else blog), but will at least show them a good descent in traffic if people start using it.

On its own this sounds quite bizarre and unworkable, but the flipside is that there’s quite a lot of anger in Europe about Google making a lot of money out of consumers and business whilst paying minimum tax into the European system itself. Perhaps if Google didn’t try and own so much on the web itself by cutting out the middleman and having the revenue go just to them then European legislatures might not feel the need to take such strident measures. For example Google makes 100s of billions out of adwords in Europe but the money is all channelled through Ireland so none of the European countries benefit at all.
