I’ll have to check this one out. And one shelf over in the stacks would be Murder State: California’s Native American Genocide, 1846-1873.

Just finished James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time:

. . . a hundred years after his (the African American) technical emancipation, he remains -with the possible exception of the American Indian- the most despised creature in his country.

I noted to my wife that, sixty years after its publication, everything in this book is, sadly, still relevant. There are deep insights into the psychology and sociology of racism here that white folks like me would do well to investigate.
