i like to think that the deep anxiety i feel as i grapple with the almost uncontrollable urge to have my eye drawn to the vertical side panel, while simultaneously feeling a dreadfully overbearing obligation to read the leftmost horizontal panels in order first as i suspect the artist intended, is part of the joke.

OMG, I thought I was the only one. It’s gotten so bad that I move the window to the side of the screen so I can only see the horizontal strips. I have issues.
