Suspect arrested for sexually assaulting little girl in viral Facebook child porn clip. She is now safe

Good God, that is just so horrible.

That is actually the #1 Facebook staple now. Same goes for Twitter or Youtube.

Look at this animal being tortured. Outrage! Look at this humiliating prank. Outrage! Look at this 130 page manifesto that some dumbass racist wrote. Look at all of it. Outrage!

Social media is drowning in filth because nobody understands the difference between quoting and propagating anymore.

That sounds like prurient interest rationalized by simulated outrage. The person probably believes that they are motivated by good.
Like all those anti-gay preachers who end up getting caught doing you-know-what.

I feel like that’s a minimum.

I browse the web every day feeling like I’m not going to accidentally stumble across child pornography. I think, “You don’t find that unless you go looking for it.”

Even if you are looking for porn. Even if you are browsing for porn that i would think of as creepy because of how it intentionally portrays participants as young (i.e. 18) I still think you are pretty safe (as safe as other daily tasks, I mean you might get hit by a car crossing the street but it’s still safe).

If something had a large number of shares on facebook then it could have shown up in my feed even if I didn’t know any of the people based on the whim of an algorithm that is there to maximize ad revenue and that is utterly child-porn agnostic.

When i hit the delete button it told me I had 14 days to undo that before everything was gone for good. Facebook has some marginal utility to me. I almost never log in, but I know there are people who like to see the pictures of my children that my spouse posts and that I’m tagger in. If within the next 14 days facebook announces they have deleted the accounts of everyone who shared child pornography I’ll probably think, “Enh, that’s adequate” and restore my automatic-cute-kid-picture-sharer. I don’t know what action short of that would seem adequate to me. Trying to improve an algorithm to detect child porn is not going to cut it.

I mean, you share child porn your account gets deleted seems like a pretty reasonable rule, doesn’t it?

That is generally true. 4chan is the only exception to that rule that I know of. Possibly clicking random links in an IRC room back in the day.

Yes. I still can’t fathom people sharing even in the interest of “helping”.

I worked for a computer shop in MS 20 years ago. A customer had child porn on his desktop image. We notified the FBI who cloned his hard drive. Turned that evidence to convict 50+ members of a child porn ring in the Southern USA. The kids on his desktop image were his own and he was an upstanding “pillar of the community”…so you just never know where they hide or how much power they have. >.<

I never had that, but it is shocking how many people have their porn out there on their desk top when the bring it in for computer work.

It is flabbergasting that they kept child porn as a freaking desktop image!!!
