I got learned up on fonts by some fine arts printer-publishers. They said the “wings” helped guide the eye from one letter to the next.

I later used seraph fonts for my college papers, as an “ease of reading” favor to my professors. Doesn’t hurt to game the system when you’re paying for your own education.
