Another interesting thing to consider here. The Wizard of Oz was a nearly forty year old film when this clip was made, but the Wicked Witch was obviously a character that children were still familiar with. Creeping into my late forties; I’m one of the kids that watched Mr. Roger’s show in the 1970’s. I remember watching The Wizard of Oz on one of the three channels we got. With the diversification of media and splintering of common experience, would a small child from 2018 know who a villainous character was from a movie that came out in the mid 1970’s around the time when this clip was first broadcast? I suspect not.
