There is one that absolutely has me looking for letter openers to stab myself with; it’s some sort of pan flute dreariness that I’ve dubbed “The Song of Sadness”. It literally sounds like a dirge of despair.
My favorites are jazz, blues, or classic. Every system usually has one of these as an option, yet they pick frenetic stuff that exceeds the frequency levels, rah-rah marketing B.S., or depressing crap meant to drive you off the line. The Pixel has a ‘let me Hold for you’ mode that I’m using to avoid them all.
Several years back, I contacted a parts distributor which had John Coltrane’s early 1960s music for hold. I left compliments with the order but regrettably can’t remember the company name.
When we get put on hold for some City of Austin services/governmental official’s phone line, we would get to hear Stevie Ray Vaughn, Willie Nelson, Doug Sahm, and more.
(Onebox ain’t boxing… so:)
Music on Hold is one of the City’s fun and unique ways of showcasing Austin’s great music—usually in sixty seconds or less. Anytime someone calls into the City telephone system and placed on hold, they will be listening to a well-curated playlist of Austin music. Music on Hold showcases Austin’s fantastic and diverse music, and it gives our citizens a little something to listen to while waiting.
If your band is interested in having a song featured on Music on Hold, please contact Stephanie Bergara at 512-974-7804.
Fun!
Southwest Airlines used to have comedians doing their standup routines for hold music. I don’t know if Southwest still does this because I haven’t called them in years.
I like the angles here:
ETA: I forgot the local musician who made a pandemic project of improving the Texas Workforce Commission’s hold music.
