The Happy Mutant's Filmgoer's and Video Viewer's Companion

Saw this last night on Netflix, highly recommend it. Riveting. Awesome performance by the lead too.

And now that I have this thread bookmarked.
Recent viewings of good films.
I finally got about to watching one I learned about through Trailers From Hell.

Oh my this one is a good thriller with bits that keep you wondering what is going on and who is responsible.

Then I watched

If you are cat lover this film is wonderful if a bit sad when you realize how much a good trap neuter release program would help out. But watching the kitties and the interviews with the people who take care of some of them is pure joy.

I second Kedi. It’s gorgeous!

Speaking of Turkey, this is awesome too.

Oh come on, that one’s hilarious! Far more entertaining than recent serious roles like 22 Bullets or Empire of the Wolves

Possibly the worst comedy I’ve ever seen without Adam Sandler in it.

This is best seen on disc, not streamed, because of the excellent easter eggs.

Highly recommended, and I’ve seen Coven, the film being made within the film. Maybe not a must see, but I bet it’s better than the film Truffaut’s character was working on.

Ok that’s just mean!

I find Reno’s slow burn simmering jealous rage against Clavier quite amusing. I think it’s funnier than the later Les Visiteurs sequels at any rate.

There’s something kind of perfect about seeing Frenchy’s dialogue subtitled in French.

Following this thread’s remit of new films that are overlooked next to blockbusters I humbly submit the following:

It is a wonderful film from Iceland that has a strong lead performance by Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir, and powerfully effective and novel use of diegetic music. It follows one woman’s struggle to curb her country’s march towards industrialization

Jodie Foster loves so much that she felt the best way to share her passion for this work is to remake it with herself as director and star.

The ‘French rugby fans on a Japanese train’ reminded me:

This is absolutely brilliant.

In one of the episodes, French operatives invent the hijacking of airliners. Because their boss makes them go on a mission in Algiers, but they have tickets for the Rugby finals in Cardiff.

While poking through the Asian DVDs at the library I almost put back Yatterman a live action version of an anime.

Then I noticed it was Takashi Miike and thought well now I have to check this out.

It was goofy good fun and he made the anime crazy look good in live action.

A properly mis-matched group of oddballs living in a scrapyard help a man find his purpose, taking down two smug weapons dealers. Lots of physical comedy and fantastic timing and the reveal of their plan… well, I shan’t spoil it in the slightest!

I love that. I should watch more of his movies.
I do recommend the delightfully dark Delicatessen.
