Recent viewings of good films.
I finally got about to watching one I learned about through Trailers From Hell.
Oh my this one is a good thriller with bits that keep you wondering what is going on and who is responsible.
Then I watched
If you are cat lover this film is wonderful if a bit sad when you realize how much a good trap neuter release program would help out. But watching the kitties and the interviews with the people who take care of some of them is pure joy.
Highly recommended, and I’ve seen Coven, the film being made within the film. Maybe not a must see, but I bet it’s better than the film Truffaut’s character was working on.
Following this thread’s remit of new films that are overlooked next to blockbusters I humbly submit the following:
It is a wonderful film from Iceland that has a strong lead performance by Halldóra Geirharðsdóttir, and powerfully effective and novel use of diegetic music. It follows one woman’s struggle to curb her country’s march towards industrialization
Jodie Foster loves so much that she felt the best way to share her passion for this work is to remake it with herself as director and star.
The ‘French rugby fans on a Japanese train’ reminded me:
This is absolutely brilliant.
In one of the episodes, French operatives invent the hijacking of airliners. Because their boss makes them go on a mission in Algiers, but they have tickets for the Rugby finals in Cardiff.
A properly mis-matched group of oddballs living in a scrapyard help a man find his purpose, taking down two smug weapons dealers. Lots of physical comedy and fantastic timing and the reveal of their plan… well, I shan’t spoil it in the slightest!
