The New York Times's chilling multimedia package on China's use of "smart city" tech to create an open-air prison

I’m a pretty odd person. I acknowledged the chaos it would cause, and am positive I would be among the dead. But I’m okay with that.

What China is doing is like Pandora’s Box of Surveillance. They are perfecting it, and they will be exporting it. The US is no longer a country that would never do that to its citizens (if it ever really was). It’s all about control.

We are also essentially doing nothing to curb climate change, and as the coastal cities are swallowed up, and the equator becomes too hot to support life, and the weather patterns are forever altered, how many people are going to die? At least a tech-destroying solar flare might slow that process down.

Hopefully whoever is left can rebuild better, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
