They don't have to tell you where meat comes from anymore

By the Queens good grace, I’m keeping my upper lip stiff :grimacing:

Obviously, the best solution then is not to BUY their meat if there’s no origin posted on it! They might even get the message that way! Our bumbling legislators strike again!

Without some kind of government oversight there’s no guarantee that your meat actually came from the place that the label says it does.

Should Canadians do the same? Insist that American meat be labelled so that they can buy Canadian only?

Tell me, why should I care what country my red meat comes from? Is foreign meet not subject to the same inspections? Do they feed them even more antibiotics than we do? Do they waste more grain fattening the animals up than we do? Is there a worse source of red meat than the good ole USA? If not, what is country of origin labeling except protectionism for American antibiotic-filled, grain-fattened meat?

Well if a country is having a particular issue with Mad Cow disease, would you be willing to to play Russian roulette at the super market?

That country’s beef would be blocked at the border, labeling or not. That’s the standard response.

The US itself has the occasional case of Mad Cow disease. What sets the US apart is that the US government has forbidden meat packers from doing their own testing.

…that’s great but what about the stuff that is already in the deli cooler? You really going to trust Billy MinimumWage to know (or care) which meat came from where?
