I’m a bit surprised that they appear to have just drilled a hole in it and hoisted it by a ring through the hole.
Obviously far from the worst damage it has suffered; but if they are bothering to retrieve it at all someone is presumably going to be going over the details of its workplace stress like a materials psychologist and, one would think, wouldn’t appreciate any additional sources of damage to complicate the picture.
I know that the image says it’s part of the carbon fiber hull but the curvature of that piece makes it look to me like a part of the thinner rear fairing from the tail of the sub, not the actual cylindrical pressure hull. It also doesn’t seem to be 5" thick in that photo.
