I had one of these when I was a kid. No electricity needed. The globes at the bottom of the poles are filled with water to give them weight. The left weight (controlling the pen) only swings in a straight line. The weight controlling the paper is fully gimballed, and can swing in any direction, plus circle and oval patterns.
