And does this “order” have any legal standing whatsoever? Isn’t the GOP that collective that keeps yammering on about private business operations? I have no vested interest in TikTok, but this seems a bit counter to their usual “pro-business” posturings.

Who explained “divestment” to him? Because I know he has no idea what that means.

So we’re using premonition now to levy accusation? What is this, The Minority Report?

I don’t know… but this may give some hint as to a basis for legal response:

(Sources: AP and wiki)

On 7 August 2020, ByteDance released a statement in response to the executive order banning US companies and individuals from doing business with it, threatening to resort to the American justice system in order to get “fair treatment.”

“What [TikTok] encountered instead was that the Administration paid no attention to facts, dictated terms of an agreement without going through standard legal processes, and tried to insert itself into negotiations between private businesses,” the company’s statement said.

But right in keeping with The American (lost its) Way.

“…might take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States.” Why can’t this argument be used to divest Trump from office?

He’s using the defense production act? The thing he pretended he was going to use to make sure there was production of necessary equipment during the covid crisis, but never did? He’s using that for fucking TikTok? The Aristocrats! American presidency, everyone!

Sounds like government intervention in private business. I thought Republicans hated that?

You know what? At this point, why not just seize it? Just steal it outright, put Little Lord Fauntleroy in charge of it. Trump can use it like he uses Twitter, and they can funnel whatever profits there might be into a Trump hotel somewhere because the extra 1000 employees they invent out of thin air are living there, invisibly.

I mean at this point, why the f- not just steal outright? Is there much of a difference? Would he lose a single vote?

So China seems to prefer stability over weakening of the US. It makes sense considering the trade relationships.

It’s probably got more to do with this

Well, that and Trump wants a trade war, a cold war, and perhaps even a slightly warm war with them to distract from his own bullshit…

Which of his friends are going to get to buy it at a discount?

On his first day in office, President Biden should shut down Fox News. I mean, you know, in the interests of “national security”. It’s only fair.
