Twitter suspends Rose McGowan, who cussed out Ben Affleck over Weinstein (Update: restored)

Who knew his character in Mallrats was aspirational…

I dug him as Batman in SVB.

And what were her options? Seriously. Against at the time was problem one of the most powerful indie producers in hollywood, for an actress known for her work in indie films? And she probably signed an NDA, meaning there wasn’t much she could do without risking a lawsuit, which she probably didn’t have the money to fight (and no, $100,000 wouldn’t go far in fighting a lawsuit against a well connected and at the time very wealthy film producer).

That’s the entire problem with a system that gives people power over others, in real world ways. It leads to some using that in horrible ways, and making the VICTIMS complicit in their own exploitation.

She’s speaking out now, and that’s what matters. The only reason she was able to do so, was because this is all coming out in other ways, so if she did sign an NDA it’s probably voided.

Not my favorite Batman… still has to be either Adam West or Michael Keaton.

He was good in Chasing Amy, though.

Wait, so yelling at Harvey Weinstein and Benn Affleck gets you kicked off Twitter but trying to incite a nuclear war with North Korea and personally attacking virtually anybody and everybody you can doesn’t?

C’mon asteroid.

Wait, are you sure that was the character he was playing in that flick?

I feel the need to point out that it’s entirely possible to break an NDA. One just has to be willing to face the consequences.
I suspect at this stage she has a better reputation and more support and is willing to walk the gauntlet.

Still, many do recognize the need for change:

I’m sure he will take the NDA at least as seriously as his wedding vows.

If he goes around letting people break contracts with him, nobody will take him seriously before long…

I think the fact that it’s all coming out now probably has more to do with it… and being older and bolder, too. What has she been in lately, though? Any ideas?

The difference is that enforcing the NDA for as long as he was able to gave him the opportunity to continue his predatory behavior and to hold it over women who signed it (for whatever reason). Of course he’d enforce it and go after anyone who broke it (probably not now. before this all came out), because it would allow him to claw back money from the women he paid off for his raping them and it gave him yet another way to assert his dominance over them.

For the women, breaking the NDA would be embarrasing, upsetting, put them in the public spot light for everyone to constantly question every little thing they did wrong and to remember how they were victimized, all over again.

But you’re being sarcastic, weren’t you?

It looks like mostly independent shorts and voice-overs, but there’s always the possibility of a resurgence in the mainstream, though it sucks that it tends to be a narrow window for older actresses (patriarchy again).
I had no idea she was 44, she must have anti-aging genes like me. Still, I would think that she has a loyal following, and is at least as iconic as someone like Sherilyn Fenn.

Right now this mess is actually starting conversations around NDAs

Also NDAs can be legally broken, someone here posted a very thorough pass at the topic

Rose’s account is back up, and the “offending tweet” removed.

Wow, Twitter. It’s possible you may have suffered whiplash during that reversal. Maybe you should go to the emergency room to have it checked out?
